"It all started with a crazy idea: what if we created a tabletop RPG that was free, evolving, and designed from the ground up to be shared?"
My name is Nicolas, and like many others, I discovered role-playing games around a table with friends. What always fascinated me wasn’t just the rules or dice rolls… but what happens between the lines: the moments when a world comes alive through the GM’s voice, when a simple choice shifts the fate of a group, or those suspended instants where we laugh, shiver, or improvise together.
Over time, I wanted to go further. I needed a system:
- that was simple but not simplistic,
- accessible to everyone, including beginner GMs,
- flexible enough to fit any kind of story,
- and most of all, open, so anyone could enrich the universe their way.
That’s how Worlds Awakening was born.
A free and community-driven RPG
Worlds Awakening isn’t just another tabletop RPG. It’s a living platform, a creative playground, and a collaborative toolkit for all RPG lovers.
The website offers:
- a complete, free rulebook available online,
- a growing community bestiary,
- character sheets you can print or use interactively,
- ready-to-play scenarios and campaigns,
- and the ability for every member to share their own creations.
Want to invent a creature? Propose a scenario? Share a battlemap? Create a custom class? Everything is in place so your ideas can come to life and be shared.
A collective adventure
I’m not alone in this journey. Around the project orbit:
- kind and creative players,
- passionate game masters,
- artists, developers, and testers,
- and most importantly… a community that believes in a different way of making RPGs: freer, more inclusive, more human.
This community is what breathes life into the game. They comment, test, improve, imagine. Thanks to them, Worlds Awakening is no longer just a personal project — it’s a shared creative space.
Why free?
Because imagination shouldn’t be locked behind a paywall.
I deeply believe that creativity flourishes when it's shared. Role-playing is an art of storytelling, improvisation, and connection. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing someone use a rule, creature, or idea born here to craft their own adventure.
The site is free, ad-free, and entirely supported by donations from those who want to back the project.
Every contribution — through PayPal, Spreadshop, or Tipeee — helps keep the project alive, open, and independent.
What’s next?
The project is always evolving. One of the future features we’re exploring is a credit system that would allow:
- access to certain comfort tools (AI content generation, personalizations, etc.),
- and possibly, a way to buy or sell content between creators through a marketplace.
This would always remain entirely optional: the core rules, official content, and essential tools will stay free and open to all.
As always, no decision will be made without carefully listening to community feedback.
