Worlds Awakening remains a free and community-driven project. Recently, an increase in hosting costs has impacted the site’s sustainability and, indirectly, other platforms I maintain (such as CO-DRS and Noobliées Chroniques). I’ve already implemented optimizations and entered negotiations to reduce expenses, but the balance is still tight.
Context and current situation
The hosting provider has raised its annual fees, which increases recurring expenses (server, backups, monitoring). I have opened a support ticket to adjust the plan, aiming to return to a lower rate if possible, and I’m working on reducing the load (caching, cleanup, disabling non-essential services) to maintain stability.
What I’ve already done
- Ongoing negotiations with the hosting provider to reduce costs while maintaining an acceptable level of service.
- Technical optimizations: enhanced caching, cleanup, review of automated tasks, and module audits.
- Prioritizing visible features for players to minimize any impact on the user experience.
