Rest

When your characters take time to rest and recover, they can restore their health points (HP) and magic points (MP). Rest and repose are essential for maintaining the health and vitality of your heroes, and they can occur in different ways depending on the situation and context of the game.

Short Rest

A short rest lasts about 1 hour and allows characters to catch their breath, tend to minor wounds, and regain some energy.

There is no limit to the number of short rests a character can take per day. However, it is important to note that the choice of rest location can lead to unexpected events...

Moreover, the PC must choose between recovering their HP or MP, but cannot recover both.

HP Recovery

During a short rest, characters can recover a number of HP equal to their level added to a roll of their hit dice.

HP recovered = Level + Hit Dice

MP Recovery

Characters can also recover a number of MP equal to their Wisdom modifier (WIS), including all bonuses, plus their level.

MP recovered = Level + WIS

If the value of MP recovered is less or equal than zero, then the character recovers 1 MP.

Long Rest

A long rest typically lasts for a full night of sleep.

Relaxed Setting

During a long rest in a relaxed setting, characters recover their maximum HP and maximum MP.

A relaxed setting can be an inn, a host's house, or any other stress-free place that offers comfortable beds and a good meal.

Stressful Setting

In a stressful or uncomfortable setting, the night's rest will be equivalent to 3 consecutive short rests.

It is still necessary to choose which characteristic (HP or MP) will be recovered during each short rest phase throughout the night.
