Leveling Up

In each adventure, your character will earn experience points (XP) by overcoming obstacles and triumphing over adversaries.

Spending XP Points

When you have accumulated enough XP, you can spend them to advance to the next level. When the character reaches level 8, they have reached their maximum level.

The cost to advance to the next level is twice the value of the current level in XP.

  • XP Cost for Next Level = 2 x Current Level

Example:
To advance from level 3 to level 4, you need 6 XP (2 x Level 3).

However, you need to take a long rest to be able to level up.

Additionally, a player character can only advance 1 level per long rest.

Increasing Hit Points (HP)

When you level up, roll the hit die (dice) to determine your new total hit points (HP).

If the result from your hit dice roll is lower than your Constitution (CON) attribute value, the result of your hit dice roll is replaced by your CON value.

  • HP Next Level = Current HP + (Hit Dice or CON)

Example:
Your character has a +4 in CON. When leveling up, you roll your hit dice (example 2d6) and score a 3 (2+1).
Since this result is lower than your CON attribute (+4), it is considered that your character gains 4 additional HP instead of 3.

Impact on Combat Characteristics

Here are the Combat Characteristics affected by the level change.

  • MP Max = 2 x (MAG + Character Level)
  • Physical Defense (Def PHY) = 10 + CON + Character Level
  • Magic Defense (Def MAG) = 10 + WIS + Character Level

But also the Physical Attack (Atk PHY) or Magical (Atk MAG) tests whose Level of the PC is systematically added to the result.
