Before a creature or a character is subjected to a targeted attack (as opposed to area attacks), they can attempt to dodge or parry. To do so, they must declare their attempt to dodge or parry before the attacker makes their attack roll. Then, they roll 1d20 and add their level and DEX for dodging, or their STR for parrying, while the attacker makes their attack roll as normal.
It is worth noting that neither dodging nor parrying is possible against magical attacks or area attacks.
For dodging:
- Dodge roll = 1d20 + Level + DEX
For parrying:
- Parry roll = 1d20 + Level + STR
If the result obtained is greater than or equal to the attacker's attack roll, the dodge or parry is successful, and the target suffers no damage. Otherwise, the dodge or parry fails, and the target takes damage from the attack.
In case of a critical success during dodging or parrying, the target can make a counterattack with their equipped weapon if they are in contact with the attacker.
In case of a critical failure, the target loses their ability to dodge or parry on the next round.
