The first undesired returns also occurred. Death, an element forgotten in their world of origin, was a common thing in the Distant Realms. The nomads did not know what this meant for the locals, but for them, the consequence was most unpleasant. They were torn from their bodily envelopes to be immediately returned to the Antechamber. The return being so rough and precipitate that their nature was perturbed, desynchronized. Dazed, they stood in front of the gate, observing their companions continue to exist in the Distant Realms.
The Travelers discovered that they were capable of bringing back one of their own who had been mortally struck. The exhausting ritual, requiring a long period of calm without interruption, involved gathering all the members of the group and at the expense of a few memories of one of them, the soul of the deceased regained its body. An undesirable effect of the operation, the miraculously revived forgot everything that had enriched them for a variable period. However, if the ritual was not performed quickly, the soul of the deceased had increasing difficulty following the group's adventures and ended up drifting slowly into the mists, eventually leaving the Antechamber. They then lost all contact with the Guardians of the Gate, forgetting everything that had happened to them during their adventurous life.
